Before You Order a Custom Pet Figurine, Read This

If you've ever thought about turning your dog or cat into a little figurine, you've probably had this small fear in the back of your head: what if it shows up looking nothing like the photos? 😬

You're not being paranoid. Spend ten minutes in the pet corners of Reddit and you'll see the same story again and again. Someone finds a shop with gorgeous listing photos, pays, waits weeks, and opens the box to something rough. Wonky eyes. Wrong colors. A face that could be any dog.

There's a whole thread of pet owners asking how to even find a legit custom pet portrait maker, because so many aren't. When people have to crowd-source "who's real," that tells you how common the bad ones are.

Two things that usually go wrong

1. AI images. A lot of "custom" shops aren't showing you real products at all. The listing photos are AI-generated, so the thing you fell in love with was never real. What shows up is a cheap version made by someone rushing through orders.

2. Stolen work. Some shops lift photos from actual talented artists, put them on a listing, and undercut on price. You think you're buying that quality. You aren't.

Either way, the ad and the reality don't match, and you find out too late.

How to protect yourself (even if you don't order from us)

  • Ask if they'll send a photo of your actual piece before it ships. If they dodge that question, walk away.
  • Ask if you can request changes. Real makers expect it. Scam shops don't offer it.
  • Look for messy behind-the-scenes stuff, not just perfect studio shots. Hands painting, half-finished pieces. Real work is a little imperfect.
  • Reverse-image-search their listing photos. If the same picture shows up on a dozen unrelated sites, you have your answer.

How we do it at Taco&Tues

Every figurine is hand-painted by real artists, from the photos you send us. Before anything ships, we send you a photo of your actual finished piece. Don't love how the paint came out? Tell us, and we fix it. We don't ship until you're happy.

I've got four cats and a dog myself, so this isn't just a business to me. I know what these little ones mean to the people who love them.

A gift like this shouldn't be a gamble, and it shouldn't cost a small fortune either. Everybody should get to hold onto their pet's best moments without crossing their fingers that the box lives up to the photos.

That's the whole reason we do this: helping you capture the beautiful moments with your fur babies. 🐾

FAQ

How can I tell if a custom pet portrait is AI-generated or real?
Ask for behind-the-scenes photos and a preview of your actual piece before it ships. Real makers can show the work in progress. AI shops usually can't.

What should I ask a shop before I order?
Two questions: "Will you send a photo before shipping?" and "Can I request changes?" If they avoid either one, that's a red flag.

Do you send a photo before shipping?
Always. We send you a photo of your finished figurine, and we only ship once you're happy with it.

Will it really look like my pet?
That's the goal. Every piece is hand-painted from your photos to match your pet's markings, colors, and little details, and you approve it before it ever leaves us.
